Pedometers and Heart Rate Monitors
Use a pedometer to count the number of steps you walk each day. A pedometer is fun and easy to use. All you need is a good pair of shoes and you are ready to take a step in the right direction. Why not set a goal for each day to help you increase your activity levels and improve your health: 150 active minutes spread throughout the week will help keep your heart healthy and your muscles strong. Sessions of at least ten minutes are a good way to start. Try to build up the number of 10 minute sessions you do each day. If you’re not used to walking, start slowly and buiild up gradually
The heart rate monitor allows you to measure your heart rate so you can ensure you’re exercising at the right pace and its having an impact. It is not necessary for heart patients to use a heart rate monitor to see if they are exercising at the right pace. Increase your physical activity gradually and exercise at a pace that feels comfortable to you. Begin slowly and build up gradually to the main pace. When you come to the end of your exercise, take time to slow down.”
